The
North East
Whether
you are a golfer visiting Scotland's North East playing two rounds
of golf every day, or an a Scottish vacation and want to take some
time to play golf, Scotland's North East has a wealth of attractions
to offer, and especially in summer, there is a full programme of events
including Highland Games, festivals, vintage vehicle rallies and agricultural
shows.
In Dundee the RRS Discovery and the Frigate Unicorn, both steeped
in history, are just two of the many attractions worth visiting, while
a short drive away is Glamis Castle, the childhood home of Her Majesty
The Queen Mother, complete with its own ghost and secret rooms.
The small towns of Montrose and Arbroath are good centres from which
to tour the countryside and the Glens of Angus, and both are within
easy reach of a great choice of golf courses.
A short drive up the East Coast is Stonehaven. Here you can pick up
the first of Grampian's fascinating themed trails. Follow the
Victorian Heritage Trail to discover why Queen Victoria loved this
area so much. Inland, on Royal Deeside, are the picturesque villages
of Banchory, Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar, all of which have excellent
golf courses. Popular attractions include the castles of Braemar,
Crathes and Balmoral.
These courses are only a small example of the excellent courses available
to play in the North East of Scotland.
Carnoustie Golf Course

Monifieth Golf Course
Letham Grange Golf Course
Carnoustie
Golf Links
Carnoustie, Angus
18 hole Championship - 6939 yards - SSS74
Last held the Open in 1975 when Tom Watson won after an 18 hole play-off.
It was described by Walter Hagen as the best course in Great Britain
and one of the finest in the world. This must be the 'jewel in
the crown' for this area. Even after the first 15 holes, the visitor
is still unprepared for the real test of Carnoustie - the toughest
finish in championship golf. If you can par the final holes you deserve
the feeling of total satisfaction. The British Open was held here
in 1999.
Royal Aberdeen
Golf Course
Aberdeen
18 hole - 6372 yards - SSS71
This old famous course has held many prestigious events over the years.
One of the highest rated links in Great Britain, there are many eye
catching features, most notably the quality of the opening and finishing
holes.
Monifieth Golf
Course
Monifieth,
Angus
18 holes - 6657 yards - SSS72
One of the most severe links on this east coast with undulating fairways
being flanked by fir trees. A course used for national championships.
A good test for all golfers.
Letham Grange
Golf Course
Arbroath,
Angus
18 holes - 6789 yards - SSS73
Acclaimed as one of the premier courses in Scotland, the championship
standard course was reputedly designed on Augusta. Providing a blend
of tree-lined, parkland, and open rolling fairways, with water hazards
playing a major role, the course is both scenic and dramatic.
